Kids who took part in this project enjoyed art and science at the same time, learning about Iowa’s exciting natural history and making the experience personal and memorable through creative writing. This project enabled kids to build language skills, imagination, and confidence while having fun! Participants also enjoyed the sense of accomplishment that comes with creating a “finished product,” as they used some of their creative work to make postcards that shared Iowa’s natural history in a unique way. These postcards were professionally published in a “postcard pack,” with each participant’s work represented. Each participant received his or her own copy of the postcard set at a final “postcard party” for family, friends, and the community on May 1. This program was absolutely free to participants.
