In this workshop, participants’ imaginations will run (or swim or slither or fly) wild!

Writers often employ animals to assist them in story-telling. Students will be introduced to poems written in the voice of an animal. Each student will pick an animal and write a poem in its voice. The student will also construct a puppet of the animal. As a collaborative project, the group will perform their poems as a puppet show for friends and family during the final workshop session. Poems and related artwork will be collected in a chapbook, complete with pop-up figures!

This workshop is created and led by Volunteer Teaching Writers Marc Rahe, Mary Hickman Fernandez, and Lauren Haldeman, all graduates of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

Sign up now! Enrollment is limited to 10 participants, so sign up ASAP.

The fee for this workshop is “give what you can” (please donate what you can to the IYWP here).
